A Different World is one of the last shows with a predominantly black cast. It takes the authentic black view of black society and takes it to college. The university that the students are attending is Hillman. This show also acts like an extension of The Cosby show. Denise one of the kids on The Cosby show also plays a role in this sitcom as a college student. Many viewers called Different World an actual spin off of The Cosby Show. A Different World would typically address issues that were avoided by The Cosby Show writers.
